Pasties were invented by the tin miners wifes, so that they could send their husbands off to work with wholesome hearty food to get them through the day. The crust was not eaten, it was there purely to hold the pasty while eating. Originally one half would contain the filling we all know and love and the other half would contain fruit preserve for dessert. True Cornish pasties MUST be made in Cornwall as its the Cornish butter, veg, meat, flour and water that make the unique taste. Nothing better than a proper pasty!

They were made for workers down the tin mines - good crusty bit so you can hold on to it in the dark - sometimes they'd stick a savoury filling in one end and jam in the other - lovely!
